For many people the journey of pregnancy and motherhood is a very delightful and rewarding experience. Yet for me this was not the case as I developed baby blues, postnatal depression and ultimately puerperal psychosis. Yet I made a full recovery. The story is told in my book 'Eyes without Sparkle - a journey through postnatal illness' (Radcliffe 2005) and my website follows on with the continuing journey.
'A really good insight into what really matters.'
Perhaps you or someone you care about is suffering after the birth of a child? Do you deal with new mothers in your professional life? Are you involved in the media and need a willing person to talk about their experiences surrounding perinatal mental health? Are you looking for someone to inspire and motivate your group? If so this site is for you as I would love to come and talk to you!
In addition I aim to campaign to improve services for the mothers of the future as they remain a postcode lottery in the UK. The MIND report 'Out of the Blue?' (May 2006) recommends that it is 'essential that skilled specialist teams and mother and baby units are available to all those with serious mental health problems regardless of where they live'. If you agree with this then please add your support to the campaign by adding your story or comments.
